Alice Badgley

When I was a little girl growing up in Colorado, my mom and I would go hiking in the foothills. As we wandered through the hills she would point out the various plants, tell me the common name, the scientific name, and anything else she knew. It was then my job to carefully collect a sample and keep it safe. When we were home, Mom and I would press the flowers into an album, and use her old manual typewriter to label each specimen.
The flowers have long since deteriorated, and I've forgotten most of their names, but my habit of collecting petals and leaves has stayed with me.
I'm at my happiest when I'm in nature, and my artwork is an extension of time spent outdoors. I gather inspiration from the textures I encounter while hiking and I incorporate those ideas into my clay pieces.
My work explores the intersection of memory, nature, and ritual through hand created clay forms.
In my spare time I digitally collage vintage public domain paintings to create pet portrait greeting cards. You can visit the Puddleton Portrait Society here.
